The Raspberry Pi 5 is the only supported host for the Argon Industria V5 ZigBee Module. It is the first Raspberry Pi to feature a PCIe connector, a hardware real-time clock, and a dedicated power button, and it is the SBC powering the Argon ONE V5 and Argon Industria V5 ecosystem.

Compatibility caveats:
config.txt before the module will be detected (see Software & Configuration).⚠️ Warning: Always power off and disconnect your Raspberry Pi 5 from all power sources before opening the case or installing any module. Installing or removing hardware while powered can permanently damage the module and the Raspberry Pi.
⚠️ Warning: When connecting the SMA antenna, ensure the flat side of the antenna screw aligns with the flat side of the Argon V5 antenna hole. Forcing the connector in the wrong orientation can damage both the antenna connector and the module PCB.
Before installing the ZigBee module, the Argon ONE V5 case must be completely assembled with the Raspberry Pi 5 installed inside. Refer to the Argon ONE V5 Assembly Guide for full instructions if you have not done this yet.
With the case fully assembled and powered off, remove the Top Cover from the Argon ONE V5 enclosure. This exposes the internal expansion area where the ZigBee module is installed.
📝 Note: Keep the Top Cover screws in a safe place — you will need them to close the case after installation.
Connect the Argon Industria V5 ZigBee Module into its designated position inside the Argon ONE V5 case. Refer to the diagram in the printed assembly manual included with your module for the exact connector location and orientation.

Thread the external SMA antenna through the designated antenna port on the Argon ONE V5 enclosure.
⚠️ Warning: The flat side of the antenna screw must align with the flat side of the antenna hole on the Argon V5 chassis. Tighten by hand only — do not overtighten with tools, as this can crack the connector.
Reattach the Top Cover and secure it with the original screws.
Reconnect power to your Raspberry Pi 5. You are now ready to install the required software and configure the ZigBee module.
The ZigBee module requires two things from the software side: the Argon ONE V5 script (for case functionality such as the power button and fan control) and a config.txt edit to activate the internal USB 2 board that the ZigBee module uses. Home Assistant OS with the ZHA integration is the recommended operating environment.
Open a Terminal on your Raspberry Pi 5 and run the following command. An active internet connection is required.

After rebooting, follow any on-screen instructions from the Argon Configuration Tool to enable the full functionality of your Argon ONE V5 case (fan control, power button behaviour, etc.).
📝 Note: The Argon ONE V5 script is required for proper case operation. It does not configure the ZigBee module itself.
The ZigBee module is fully documented and supported under Home Assistant OS. Other Linux distributions (Raspberry Pi OS, Ubuntu) are theoretically compatible with ZigBee USB coordinator software, but are not covered in the official Argon 40 documentation.

⚠️ Warning: This step is required for the ZigBee module to be detected. Skipping it will result in the module not appearing in Home Assistant or any other software. Do not skip this step.
The ZigBee module communicates with the Raspberry Pi 5 via the Argon ONE V5's internal USB 2 board. This interface must be explicitly enabled by adding a device-tree overlay to config.txt.
To activate the USB 2 board in Home Assistant OS:

Likely cause: The USB 2 board has not been activated in config.txt.
Resolution:
- Confirm the dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host line is present under the [all] section in /mnt/boot/config.txt.
- If the line is missing, follow Step 3 — Activate the USB 2 Board in full.
- After editing, reboot and return to Settings → Devices & Services to retry the ZHA integration setup.
- Verify the module is physically seated correctly in the case (power off the system, remove the top cover, and reseat the module if in doubt).
Likely cause: The antenna is oriented incorrectly relative to the chassis hole.
Resolution:
- Power off and remove the Top Cover.
- Inspect the antenna hole in the Argon ONE V5 chassis — it has a flat edge on one side.
- Align the flat side of the antenna screw with that flat edge before threading.
- Thread by hand only. Do not force or use tools.
- If the connector feels like it is cross-threading, stop immediately, realign, and retry.
⚠️ Warning: Forcing the antenna connector in the wrong orientation can damage the SMA connector on the module PCB. This type of damage is not covered under warranty.
